Do you have flat feet? If so – not to worry! You’re absolutely not alone!

Flat feet in and of themselves are not necessarily a bad thing. Many people who have flat feet live out their whole lives completely normal with no problems or complications.

But there certainly are those who have flat feet who experience a lot of problems because of them. These problems can include (but certainly aren’t limited to) plantar fasciitis, knee pain (patellar tracking), hip pain, and lower back pain.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms and you have flat feet, oftentimes addressing this issue can help you to feel better in a hurry.

CAN EXERCISE FIX MY FLAT FEET?
The bottom line is most flat feet are caused by bone and ligament structure in your foot. Unfortunately no amount of exercise will ever change the anatomical structure of your foot.

However what you CAN do is improve the STRENGTH and STABILITY of the muscles that act on the bones of your foot to add support and improve movement mechanics!

And those are exactly the exercises you’re going to get in this video!

BEST HOME EXERCISES FOR FLAT FEET
(Video time stamps included below for your convenience)

(0:00) INTRODUCTION
(1:45) ORTHOTICS
(2:53) FOOT FLEXION
(4:03) TOWEL SCRUNCHES
(4:49) PERONEAL STRETCH
(5:54) RESISTANCE BAND INVERSION
(7:23) STANDING INVERSION
(8:23) STANDING SUPINATION

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO THESE EXERCISES?
Remember – it took your entire lifetime for your feet to get into their current position; it’s going to take some time and effort to make see some changes as you work your way out of flat footedness.

I recommend performing these exercises once daily for 6-8 weeks to see the improvement you’ll make.

  1. Can I grow flat feet again if I stop doing this?

  2. 5:45 I'm doing it, but I guess I'm doing it wrong because I don't feel anything. I don't know what to do

  3. ThNks for the excercises. Dr. Jared may you guide me is that a treatment after some month and does it depen on the age or not?
Also, may you put some treatmental excercises for mild cross knees?

  5. My right foot arch is showing improvement while my left arch seems nearly not changşng at all.

  6. Big mistake trying to "fix" naturally flat feet. Going barefoot is best. Don't try using arch supports or you'll end up with plantar fascitis. Been there done that. Leave them alone.

  7. Very impressive video, quickly and easily explains all the main exercises to fix flat fee/overpronation. However, it could be a good idea to add some glute exercises as well.

  8. good info, thanks for the chapters, your sound is awful though!

  9. are there any tests to do as a baseline to help motivate the workouts?

  10. Exercise 1 – 3:20

    Exercise 2 – 4:21

    Exercise 3 – 6:23

    Exercise 4 – 7:41

    Exercise 5 – 8:37

  11. My chiro says I can't fix my flat feet with exercises and need to wear insoles forever, he says you can't retrain the foot…thoughts?

  12. For the third exercise my calves keep cramping up how do I stop it?

  13. I would love to try these but having heard from the doctor that the feet are already beyond anything but reconstructive surgery, it's hard to believe it would do much.
So, I would love to hear anyone with stage 2a flexible flat feet or later having tried these exercises for some time and hear what their experience was.

  14. If my left foot is over twice as flat as my right foot, can I just do the exercises on the left only (except the 5th exercise of course)? Or is that not recommended somehow?

  15. Thx for the video!
    Fix sound reverberation too. 😉

  16. …what if you literally can't feel any way to control your muscles to do the exercise… (foot flexion)… I can't for the life of me move it like that.

  17. Dr. Jared, I’m soooo hoping these exercises will help me as a new adult ice skater struggling with pronation in my skates. The pronation translates to me struggling to get off my inside edges all the time, and I just can’t seem to progress. I would love to see a video from you about basic balance required for new figure skaters! Between pronation and balance, skaters are always looking for online resources to help with these crucial and fundamental concepts.

  18. Going to try these, my entire right leg is misaligned. Heres to hoping!
